Olá,
Uma série de artigos sobre backup disk-to-disk de alta velocidade. 

Bacula, Solaris (que poderia ser substituido por http://www.OpenIndiana.org livre quase diretamente ou http://www.FreeBSD.org com talvez algum possível retrabalho), e sobre ZFS.
190 TB dados já compactados, 490 milhões de arquivos, 9 servidores, 375 discos, 2 GB/s backup.

Pessoalmente, permaneceria com o muito confiável PostgreSQL, indicado pelo Bacula para grandes instalações.
PostgreSQL nunca nos deu problemas mesmo sob cargas MACIÇAS (5K tps).
