*Durante o 12º Fórum Internacional de Software Livre (FISL), que ocorreu
entre os dias 29 de junho e 02 de julho de 2011 no Centro de Eventos da
PUC-RS em Porto Alegre, o Governo Brasileiro assinou uma carta
comprometendo-se a auxiliar no desenvolvimento dos projetos OpenOffice e
LibreOffice (que são suítes de escritório open source).Para o Governo, essa
medida torna-se interessante pelo fato que muitas instituições públicas
utilizam soluções livres, principalmente no que diz respeito à edição de
documentos.O auxilio será através da disponibilização de programadores
nacionais, esses ajudarão a melhorar as suítes para disseminar o uso de
software livre.*

Brazilian Government's Free Software Implementation Committee, under the
coordination of SERPRO and with the participation of several Direct and
Indirect public administration agencies, responsible for the framing and
coordination of projects and actions to implement Free Software inside the
Brazilian Federal Government – has     deliberated concerning collaboration
with the Free Software Projects LibreOffice, maintained by The Document
Foundation, and OpenOffice, maintained by the Apache Foundation.Considering
that:1. The ODF Standard is important for the storage of governmental
information, as a way to guarantee interoperability between governmental
agencies, recommended by the e-Ping, and following the Open Data
policies;2. Brazil has one of the biggest user base of these software
projects internationally. The creation of this collaboration group aims to
make the country's contribution to international projects more effective;3.
The availability of a Free Software office suite is fundamental to the
execution of the Free Software usage strategy by the Federal Government,
promoting innovation, Brazilian ITC independence and the democratization of
access to technology and to the technical knowledge needed for the
country's development;4. Besides that, we understand that the Academy and
State and Municipal Governments' participation are of primary importance to
the consolidation of public policies and to Brazilian technological
development. Based on that, we invite Brazilian Universities and other
Governments to join us in this initiative.The CISL representatives reaffirm
their commitment to use the ODF Standard, already expressed by signing of
the Brasilia Protocol and propose the creation of a collaboration group to
develop, and encourage the formation of an Office Suite platform maintained
by the communities The Document Foundation and the Apache Foundation.Porto
