That is severely outdated, the official git repository is:
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-ruby-extras/gem2deb.git/

the version in unstable automates a lot more than the one in jessie, and
of course is using it that I have been doing packages for noosfero since
forever. Package that are simple/sane/well-maintained at the rubygems
level are mostly trivial, but some others are not.
