Subject: You're a pip. Thanks!

I personally don't care at all for trying to figure out the nature of third parties at the federal/presidential level, or for focusing on parliamentary politics as the best/most important way to engage in socialist politics.

Much more important is developing alternative political and economic structures, whether this development is in the form of seizing existing ones (i.e. workplace takeovers), reforming existing ones (worker strikes for better wages, benefits), or starting new ones in a legal manner (worker coops). Also critical is going on the offensive and blockading aspects of state and capital (as we've seen in the various Ferguson/cop-related uprisings, as well as indigenous-lead blockades of carbon infrastructure). Note that all of these things are not directly linked to worrying about a presidential election or engaging in electoral politics at all (not to say that electoral politics doesn't or shouldn't play a role).

Even if you do want to stick to electoral politics, you have to recognize that getting a third party to be successful requires a strong material and social base anyways that has yet to be scaled up. So generally its just empty armchair philosophizing to talk about third parties or socialist electoral politics in the abstract without talking about how the political, economic, and social *base* of such efforts need to be constructed and expanded.
