I wouldn't ever call it a problem. If the user want to know its
details, he must require it, by clicking in some link called "Details".

Why don't just warn the user if the file is too big? With the "too
big" being configurable.
The user won't mind if the file is 2Mb, 5Mb or 8Mb. Most users won't
even know how long it will take to download the file, regardless it
has 500Kb or 10Mb, until they click on the link and the download
manager appears.
